If I Was Your Girl | Book Review

Hey everyone,

Have you ever picked up a book and just been completely sucked in and you’re not able to put it down until you’ve finished?? Well that’s how I felt about If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo. Like many of the other books I’ve read recently I found this through Zoella’s book club and they never disappoint.

The story follows Amanda, a Transgender teen living in America. After transitioning Amanda was severely bullied so she ended up moving across the country to live with her Dad in a whole new city. This was her fresh start in a new school where no one knew about her past, or at least they didn’t yet!

This book gives an incredible insight into the struggles that so many trans teens must go through on a day to day basis. Amanda conveys an overwhelming amount of courage and bravery. I think this book should be used as a tool to educate and give people more understanding. This would be a great novel for everyone to read in secondary school english classes. In schools there is no where near enough focus on gender, sexual orientation and so many more topics that I won’t list because I could be here all night and that needs to change.

I will definitely be recommending this to people, I wish I found it sooner!! Following Amanda’s journey had me beaming with happiness and shedding a tear at points. Honestly it is one of the best books I’ve read in a while, simply a must read!!

Have you read ‘If I Was Your Girl’?? I would love to know what you thought, let me know in the comments!
